A sure sign of spring is catching a glimpse of that first robin. We have seen them and I am sure you have too. I imagine Mr. and Mrs. Robin talking to each other, especially when spring is supposed to be warmer - not snow drifts and frozen ground. Mrs. Robin makes some comment about all these harsh conditions, and leaving the warmth and beauty of their southern winter home. Mr. Robin cocks his shiny eye, chirps at his mate. “I wanted to get an early start. You know, the early bird gets the worm. The cold and snow won’t last forever. Don’t worry! God is in control. You will soon be on your nest.” With that he spots another worm and heads off to eat.
Yeah! You might think I have a vivid imagination. Birds communicating with each other but why else would theses birds leave warmer climate and fly north. It has to be inbred in them from their Creator.
In spite of what they see and feel, spring is coming because God is in control and has planned out the seasons. The Bible gives the price of a sparrow as just a couple of copper coins. Not very much! BUT God feeds them as they build their nests in expansive, elaborate structures. As for robins, they even fly south for the winter. Not a bad holiday. The parallel of God’s love does not stop with our fine feathered friends. God continues to give His appraisal by saying, “And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!” Luke 12:24b (NLT)
Jesus is telling his followers to not worry or be afraid. The Bible commands us to not worry or be afraid over 360 times. You would think that reading the message so many times that one would think that God really means what He says; DON’T BE AFRAID!
Our fears seem like humungous giants. They want to trample us under their feet. Fears such as failures, dysfunctional families, job or income loss, and health all try to intimidate us into thinking they are bigger than God. At times we become overwhelmed, it seems like we are sinking in hopeless despair.
Jesus knew these imposing giants could create panic, which is why he told us to look at the simple things that depend on God. I cannot remember a day where I do not see or hear a bird. Jesus said when we are faced with fear; “Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store up food in barns, for God feeds them.” Luke 12:24 (NLT)
Very few birds, including intimidating vultures, stand up to humans. We get close, make some noise and they retreat to a nearby tree. Through the power of ALMIGHTY GOD and the knowledge of who He is, we can come against these fears. If God cares for two cent sparrows, he will certainly care for us. With God on our side we can chase pesky fears away and live in perfect peace
The next time when situations seen ice cold and hopeless, remember the robin’s confidence that spring is sure to come because God is.

NLCC ~ the Church by the Water Tower
"The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with My word. I send it out and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.“
